Conveniently located in the heart of Swindon, the Gemma Short School of Dance & Theatre Arts provides expert training for all ages with a personal touch you just will not find anywhere else.
Whether you are a beginner or an experienced dancer or performer, our well qualified and helpful staff are trained to assist you in all aspects of dance and theatre arts. Students have the opportunity to train for ISTD examinations in Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz and National Dance, as well as Limbering, Musical Theatre, Singing, Drama, Dance Fitness and Acro for Dance. Students also have the opportunity to compete in regional and national festivals and competitions, and will be encouraged to develop their performance experiences.
We welcome children aged from 1 year in our 'Music, Movement & Make Believe' classes all the way through to our adult classes!
Students have successfully auditioned for full and part time vocational training with prestigious establishments such as: Tring Park Classical Ballet and Nothern Ballet, and have also been seen performing in West End shows or in television commercials.
We take a personalised approach to our training and balance high expectations of ourselves and students with a sense of fun.
The school has 2 dance studios, a singing room, as well as a dance shop that stocks all uniform as well as a range of non-uniform dancewear and gift ideas.
We were delighted that the Government announced that we could re-open our studios from 25th July 2020. The GSS team worked hard to ensure that the studios were fully prepared to be 'Covid-secure' to re-open for our socially-distanced summer school on Monday 27th July. It was great to be back and we have now completed our plans to fully re-open from Monday 7th September.
We will be running a full timetable of lessons.
A full industry-specific Risk Assessment has been completed on a template provided by the ISTD and is available via the link.
In this first stage of re-opening, the focus is on a return to learning and enjoying dance together in person and in our own studios; however we have a number of changes that we have had to implement. We thank you ahead of your understanding and support of these measures.
We also await further guidance on when it is safe to recommence contact work and group rehearsals, as well as how competitions, examinations and performances will work in the future. We will provide updates as soon as we have them!
We can't wait to see you all again soon and to welcome all of our new pupils.
